Gather the goblins for an easy trick or treat craft tutorial

I’m not sure how it can be nearly the end of September already, but before we know it Halloween will be here and with it the trick-or-treaters. Well, we hope so anyway, if this nasty pandemic ever lets up. You probably have one or two little goblins you would like to give a treat to though, so today I have a tutorial for you that is easy enough for the wee ones to help with. So, grab some cardstock, glue and scissors and let’s do this!

Halloween Treat Box

Supplies Used:

  • cardstock – (1) 8.5 x 5.5 inch piece of orange, (1) 1 x 4 inch piece of black, snd (1) .75 x 4 inch piece of green
  • designer paper – (2) 4.25 x 2.5 inch pieces , (1) 1×4 inch piece
  • (2) 18 inch pieces of bakers twine or narrow ribbon
  • adhesive (tear tape, tape runner or glue
  • scissors
  • scoring tool

Dimensions finished: 4.25 x 1.25 x 2.75 inches

Scoring (inches) : .ORANGE piece only – 5, 1.75, 4.5, 5.75, turn and score. along one long edge @ 1.25 inches

Assembly:

Gather your supplies together and cut the necessary pieces according to the instructions above.

Score the orange piece according to the measurements listed above.

Clip small corner piece away, then clip to bottom score line to create 4 tabs/flaps along box bottom Fold along all score lines then apply adhesive to narrow flap on one end. Adhere two larger designer paper pieces to the corresponding panels on the box.

To assemble box, with interior facing up, fold the small flap with the adhesive and the first side panel in. Hold in place, then bring opposite edge over and press down on adhesive strip. This ensures your box is squared up and even.

Fold side flaps in first, then back flap, then front flap. I usually make the back the side where I adhered the ends together for a neater finish. Secure with glue or adhesive along edge of front flap.

Pinch box together along sides.

Snip one end of each of the narrow pieces to form a chevron. Layer and adhere together. Align to box for placement then fold the end of the tags over the top edge of the box.

Here is where you fill the box with treats, a gift card, or some other some other small item. Hold the chevron tags down against front of box and secure with baker’s twine or ribbon. Tie with a knot or bow.

Ta da! You’re done!

If this was at all confusing, I also recorded a video tutorial. You can see that right here, or hop on over to my YouTube channel and watch it there.

Thanks for following along today. I hope you will give this a try and be sure to let me know how it turned out.
