Labor Day: The end-of-Summer weekend we all love & lament over
I love a good long holiday weekend just as much as the next person, but there is something about Labor Day that makes me think ahead (prematurely perhaps) to those long (sometimes endless) winter days that will be here before we know it. Of course we have Autumn to look forward before we get to the much colder Winter days and there’s something to be said for crackling bonfires, crunchy leaves, cheerful pumpkins and the glorious colors that come with Autumn in Minnesota.
Treasured time with Family and Friends
One of the best things about Labor Day for us is the chance to gather with friends and family while the temperatures are still pleasant, and this weekend gave us the absolutely perfect weather. Sometimes we aren’t so fortunate, but that’s when we drag out the cards or the boardgames and amuse ourselves indoors. Thankfully, this year we have been blessed with a string of beautiful days and we made use of it to host a happy hour of sorts with my sister and brother-in-law on Saturday. My Charcuterie skills bore fruit and we enjoyed a nice spread of meats, cheeses, and fruit with crackers, dips, relishes and jams. I pulled out several jars of the latter that had been gifted to me and ended up with a really nice spread. Did I think to take a photo?? Oh, no. Of course not…because THAT would have been nice to share here right? Believe me, I’m shaking my head too. Next time…I promise!
I also was blessed to spend a day with the Bestie (Twyla…I’m talking to you!) for a belated birthday celebration (we both have August birthdays). We didn’t do anything truly exciting, but time together was really all either of us were looking fo,r so I’d call the day a success. Sometimes a little time with a treasured friend is all you need, right?
Treasures from this Summer
This summer was pretty darned productive for me in terms of getting new items added to the store and playing with different projects, patterns and pursuits. My kids would tell me I have way to much going on at any one time, but that’s kinda the way I roll. My attention span is a bit short sometimes and I tend to always be looking for something new to try, but the result is (hopefully) a lot of fun things that I can share here. One of these treasures is The Traveler cross body bag that I added recently. This little gem is sized just right for, you guessed it, traveling. It’s also good for the day to day. If you are a fan of the smaller purse, then this one is a nice, lightweight option. I gave it a test run myself for our trip to Charleston, and have to say it worked beautifully for carrying all my essentials. The cross body strap takes the stress off of one shoulder or the other with the added security of keeping it in place when walking. I’m offering it currently in a darling white on black daisy pattern and will be adding a couple more variations soon.
Summer candles are still available!
Before I go, I wanted to say that the newer Summer scented candles I added to the store earlier this year are still on the site and available and, can I just say, you’re missing out if you haven’t given them a try? Below is a bit more info about each one. Give them a try! I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Mango Joy
In need of a tropical vacation? Look no further! Mango Joy combines the tart scent of mango, pineapple, orange and lime with a little coconut to bring out the island vibe. All this candle needs is the little umbrella!
Sweet Magnolia
Take a walk through a sweet Southern summer garden. Scented with melon, apple, magnolia and a touch of sandalwood, Sweet Magnolia is the perfect introduction to warm summer days and sultry summer nights.
Happy Days
Make way for Happy Days and the sassy scent of coconut and lime. Crisp, tart and packed with citrus and a little coconut to smooth things out, Happy Days will get your Spring off to a cheerful start and carry you right through Summer.
As always, thanks for popping in! I hope you all have a fantastic week ahead. Enjoy the last of your holiday weekend, and for those who have kidlets heading off to school, I wish you the best with first-day-of-school bus schedules, new teachers, new friends and the homework. I’ll be praying for you! LOL!
