A Vacation State of Mind; Sometimes You Just Need To Escape the Every Day

I know I have been quiet for a while. I blame life. Lol! Sometimes things get so crazy all your best laid plans take a hike and before you know it a week (or several) go by. One blessing that came out of all this […]

Hello! Happy New Year (WAY late!) and I hope you are well!

Hello! Happy New Year (WAY late!) and I hope you are well!

Hello! I am back with four new additions to the shop that are absolutely PERFECT for Valentine’s day. Skip the chocolates, the flowers that wilt and the guilt and head for the Valentine candles! I guarantee, every single one is calorie free (though Chocolate Cherry Bomb won’t seem like it), and they last for a nice long time!

NEW gift ideas from the Heartland make gift giving EASY!

NEW gift ideas from the Heartland make gift giving EASY!

Hello December!

I am officially into my Christmas frame of mind and am plotting and planning for a weekend of decorating, tree trimming and gift assembly. Thanksgiving weekend managed to fill up with other projects that prevented me from putting our tree up, but this weekend look out! The house is getting a holiday overhaul! The hubby will be thrilled because it means the tree that has been taking up residence in our garage will finally get moved out of the way and I will be able to say (finally) that I took care of moving it. Yeah, yeah…I know it’s been 10 months that I’ve been promising that but hey. Life happens. Anywhoo, I am looking forward to digging out all my holiday decorations and putting the Autumn decor away. I LOVE Christmas and I generally dive headlong into planning dinners for family and friends, gift wrapping, tree trimming and all the rest of it. I also take the last two weeks of the year off from work so I can truly enjoy it so, yeah, I’m looking forward to that as well. Fifteen workdays and counting…

In other news, I am super excited to announce I have a new gift section in the store and I am working on loading it up with a bunch of different things to make gift giving easy. To start things off with a bang, I have a bright paper package all tied up with string (and aren’t those all of our favorite things?) that I hope lands right on top of your wish list! I have been working on this one for a little while now and am finally ready for the big reveal. So…ready?

Noel Gift Set

Meet Noel.

This gift set is all about the warm and cozy.

Included in each bright red gift box (string included) are a fresh new sweet peppermint candle in an adorable square mason-type jar that I’ve tied with a ribbon. Next is a Noel Gift Set exclusive Heartland cozy in bright, cheery red and a pair of re-usable hand warmers that are just the right size for coat pockets and mittens. All of this is packaged in a sweet red gift box with a hand-stamped note card and envelope for the recipient.

This weekend I will be working on putting together a bunch of other options for combo bundles and gift sets so be sure to check back to see what else is in store! Also, don’t forget to check out all the other great options in candles, cozies, zipper pouches and wristlet key fobs! By the way…these all make great stocking stuffers!

Thanks for stopping by today and remember to share the love! I’d love to hear from you either in the comments or via email or message and if you have a question about anything in my shop, be sure to reach out.

Add some Happy! 5 fun things to do when your week is wearing you down.

Add some Happy! 5 fun things to do when your week is wearing you down.

I believe it is really important to find things that interest us outside of work and all the usual day-to-day stuff we slog through on our way to the weekend. Something that refuels our creative spirit, refreshes our outlook and gives us the energy to keep going.  Self Care is the catchphrase being used of late for this concept, and yes, it is important so why not have a little fun while we are at it?

Love from the Heartland Featured Product: Cup Cozies

Have you ever ever ordered coffee to go and been handed a paper cup that is just short of plasma hot and as soon as the barista hands it off you wish you had a layer of Teflon on your hands? Yes? I thought so which is why I designed these little sweater cozies that you can use to make holding that cup less of a ninja warrior test and keep your beverage hot a little longer too.

Dreaming of the Unique Travel Destination – Part 2

Welcome back to part two of my bucket list of places to go in the world. My list is long and I can only hope to live long enough to visit them all but it’s good to dream, right? Plus, there’s that allure of the foreign that I have a yearning for. Having said that, I may have unintentionally mislead you into thinking that I only want to travel abroad. I know I tossed that idea out there into the world in the last post, but really, I just love to travel and yes, there ARE many places stateside that I would love to explore as well. Perhaps the fact that they are more easily accessible is what nudges them a little further down on my list, but they are definitely in my thoughts. In fact, I will be writing about Charleston, SC in an upcoming post because we are going to be traveling and exploring the area around that lovely city next month! Be sure to wander back my way to hear all about that. Or, (shameless plug) sign up for my newsletter and get all my posts dropped right into your mail box.

So, without further ado, my first pick for today’s post is …

Paradise – Glenorchy Queenstown

Everyone dreams of going to Paradise one day right? This trip is going to require a lengthy journey to get there, but I’ve heard such amazing things I truly hope to convince the hubby to go someday. When I say lengthy, I mean a day or more and more than one flight connection. This idea does not appeal to my hubby AT ALL so it will most assuredly take a lot of cajoling, begging and pleading to get him to agree to go. However, as we discovered on our Ireland trip, distance really doesn’t matter when you are having so much fun!

I stumbled on this pick while searching for out-of-the-way destinations. As I’ve said, I love the idea of wandering through small villages, over unspoiled countryside and in and out of little pubs and shops. I want to talk to the locals, enjoy my morning coffee in little cafes and just enjoy the scenery. Glenorchy, I learned, is a tiny little town a mere 40 minutes or so south of Queenstown. Keep going another 40 minutes and you will land right in a wonderfully picturesque region of Paradise. What’s the appeal of this place for me? It isn’t a shopping Mecca nor are the streets lined with shops or restaurants. What you’ll find in Paradise is showstopper views and glorious natural landscapes. Paradise is actually part of the Mt Aspiring National Park and (fun fact), if you are a fan of the Lord of the Rings films, several of the movie scenes were filmed there!

Bradford on Avon, England

The Town Bridge (shown in the image above) crosses the ‘broad ford’ on the Avon which is the origin of the name Bradford on Avon.

My second pick for today is also abroad, though not quite as far away as New Zealand. For this pick, I’ve selected the often overlooked Bradford on Avon. Located along the banks of the River Avon, just 8 miles from Bath, this little market town is located on the Western edge of the Cotswolds. It think what draws me here is all the stone houses, little mismatched cottages and the English gardens. There are oodles of things to do nearby including the Longleat Safari Park (yes, I like zoos), Salisbury Cathedral and Avebury, home to the largest stone circle in Europe. You thought I was going to say Stonehenge didn’t you? Well, Avebury is a bit more off the beaten path and not so touristy as Stonehenge. A win in my book! Of course, there’s bound to be a castle or fancy English manor I’ll want to tour and they’re all but guaranteed to make me sigh with envy, but shucks, we just don’t have that stuff here in Minnesota!

Feel-Good Movie Picks for Families

I spent this past weekend celebrating another trip around the sun and was reminded that spending time with family and friends is one of the things I enjoy most. I am also a big fan of movies, especially the kind that tell a good story […]
